President's Vision

Strategy 1: Expanding the future value of students

With the philosophy of increasing the future value of students as much as possible, we promote the creation and sharing of knowledge based on public interest, transparency, sociality, internationality, and ethics through scientific inquiry and information literacy. Furthermore, we aim to develop people of great scale who are enthusiastic, imaginative, and persistent, while respecting people as a code of conduct. In the graduate program, we foster high-level thinking and creativity through scientific inquiry while promoting further internationalization, collaboration with universities and research institutes, and education and research using information technology, and we train leaders of a knowledge society with broad perspectives. To this end, we will further expand and improve the quality of the education and research environment, promote high-level education and research by reforming the educational programs and teaching methods of the graduate program in anticipation of social demand, and train human resources who are proactive in application and practice. In the bachelor's program, we aim to develop students' creativity and expand their intellectual curiosity about nature and society. In other words, we will establish an educational system that will enable students to play an active role in the worlds of science, technology, and business, and we will constantly develop educational methods for lectures, experiments, and practical training that build the foundations of logical thinking and stimulate creativity, so that we can create new ideas and values, respect the individuality of others, and cultivate the basic abilities to demonstrate one's own creativity.

Strategy 2: Create new fields and concepts that will lead the world

We promote the creation of outstanding new knowledge by carrying out mission-oriented research ranging from basic research in agriculture, engineering and their interdisciplinary fields that support the foundations of society to applied research directly linked to science and technology. We also fulfill our social responsibility as a base for disseminating science and technology toward the creation of a sustainable society based on high ethical standards. Both agriculture and engineering are academic fields based on the relationship between people, nature and natural phenomena, and are at the core of our university's raison d'être. In other words, as human activities continue to have a major impact on the global environment, it is important to ensure food, health and social well-being for humanity while appropriately circulating energy and resources and reducing and restoring the environmental burden. To achieve this, scientific exploration, advanced technological development, and new ideas for building a social system based on comprehensive knowledge are essential. Based on this recognition of the issues, we will focus on cutting-edge scientific research and technological development based on the flexibility and resilience that are essential to creating a future society, while also envisioning what a sustainable smart society should be from the connections between people and nature and putting it into practice. Furthermore, by sharing this goal with the international community and promoting the discovery of diverse talents that will lead the future and the dissemination of new knowledge to society, we will create new fields and new concepts that will lead the world.

Strategy 3: Propose and lead the ideal society

The Tama area in Tokyo where our university is located has convenient access to the city center, various regions in Japan, and overseas, and is also home to numerous leading companies based on cutting-edge technology. The surrounding area is a treasure trove of natural environments and natural resources, and is a large concentration of educational institutions, public institutions, and testing and research institutes related to various industries. In this favorable environment, we will build a comprehensive cooperative relationship with society, such as creating future value based on scientific research, providing new knowledge to society, and training human resources to put this knowledge into practice. In addition, we will explore unknown needs and create new markets using the knowledge and practical skills generated by the university, which will lead to the power to move society. Collaboration between universities and industry, local communities, and international communities is to maintain and develop important social functions such as ensuring the continued development and internationality of business, utilizing human resources, promoting employment, and creating new industries. In other words, it is essential to have foresight in terms of the relevance of academic knowledge and the future potential of the underlying technology, drawing an image of the human resources who will be active, and relating it to business. We must get into the middle of the discussion and do our best under a common goal. Rather than being limited to ideas based on university-generated knowledge and technological applications, universities play an important role in proposing and leading the vision of the society we should aim for in the future and translating this into concrete practice.

Strategy 4: Strengthening governance and autonomous university management

To achieve the sustainable development of higher quality education and research, we will build a strong foundation for independent and autonomous university management. In other words, we will thoroughly strengthen our governance and management foundation in order to continue to develop with a strong will the education and research results that we aim for, and activities to increase the social value and contribution of the university. We will establish a system that can steadily ensure the continuity of management resources through diversification of financial sources and asset management, clarify responsibilities, and thoroughly implement ethical guidelines, while clarifying the university's goals and systematically promoting educational activities, social contribution activities, entrance examinations, public relations activities, compliance, risk management, project planning and proposals, and the operation and management of related facilities. Furthermore, we will further strengthen comprehensive collaboration with domestic and international institutions, leading to the creation of comprehensive and sustainable cooperative relationships, such as creating future value based on advanced research, providing knowledge to society and putting it into practice, and training human resources who will lead the spread of that knowledge. Based on a personnel system that expands the value and potential of people, we will create opportunities for new goal setting through collaboration between faculty and staff, and for learning and playing an active role in practical methods. We aim to maximize the vitality and creativity of our members by evaluating their level of contribution to the university and their motivation based on a developmental perspective that emphasizes diversity and internationality.
