Crops such as rice and wheat have been developed to be suitable for large amounts of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, but varieties suitable for environmental conservation agriculture and global environmental changes such as global warming and super typhoons have not yet been developed. In this research, we aim to be the first in the world to build a foundation for smart breeding of next-generation rice varieties suitable for the future global environment based on big data such as stress resistance to lodging, flooding, and drought, nutrient utilization efficiency in roots, and symbiotic microbial communities, as well as rice genome data. Our university has many research results in rice genome breeding, resource-recycling crop production, and information engineering. We would like to develop and implement edible varieties and high-value-added sake rice varieties that contribute to the food problems of the world and Asia and to improving Japan's food self-sufficiency rate through industry-academia collaboration.
